Guppy Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 This gets asked often enough that we should properly dedicate a thread to it: Each site on this list has their own license terms - be sure to read them Textures: http://cgtextures.com/ http://texturemate.com/ http://textures.thefree3dmodels.com/ Models: http://www.blendswap.com/blends/ http://tf3dm.com/3d-models/ [uses copy righted textures and materials] http://opengameart.org/ http://www.katorlegaz.com/3d_models/index.php http://www.turbosquid.com/Search/3D-Models?max_price=0&min_price=0 2D / Ui: http://www.glitchthegame.com/public-domain-game-art/ http://opengameart.org/ http://www.lostgarden.com/search/label/free%20game%20graphics http://www.reinerstilesets.de/ http://openfontlibrary.org/ Music: http://www.freesound.org/ http://naturesoundsfor.me/ http://freemusicarchive.org/ http://soundimage.org/ Animation / Motion capture: http://mocap.cs.cmu.edu/ http://www.mocapdata.com/index.cgi?category_id=19053 Theory/Books http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems/gpugems_part01.html http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems2/gpugems2_part01.html http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems3/gpugems3_ch01.html http://paulbourke.net/geometry/polygonise/ (for all the mincraft cloners ) "Safe" licenses include ( but not limited to ) CC-0 CC-BY MIT Apache BSD "Unsafe" licenses include ( again not limited to ) GPL CC-BY-SA CC-BY-SA-NC I'll add descriptions and license tags to the links later, in the mean time feel free to contribute your own links 5 Quote System: Linux Mint 17 ( = Ubuntu 14.04 with cinnamon desktop ) Ubuntu 14.04, AMD HD 6850, i5 2500k

Guppy Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Made one of those days ago http://www.reddit.com/r/Leadwerks/comments/1wokdx/free_models_textures_sounds/ I'll dig through them and add them to the list this weekend when I can find the time - do beware tho that some of them ( like the Ryzom link ) use questionable/unsafe/cancerous licensing terms. I should properly also explain the licenses a bit. Quote System: Linux Mint 17 ( = Ubuntu 14.04 with cinnamon desktop ) Ubuntu 14.04, AMD HD 6850, i5 2500k

DudeAwesome Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I dont know why someone should use free resources for commercial use. this is just wrong. IMO free resources are a good startpoint to have something to work with and learn. 1 Quote It doesn´t work... why? mhmmm It works... why?
gamecreator Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 You mean if you buy the same model for $50 then it's ok? I don't understand. Good models come at all price points. Bad ones too. 1 Quote

Benji385 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Do not use TF3DM most models on the site are ripped from other games using them in your games will result in a lawsuit from a major publisher (Ubisoft, EA, Etc.). I would also highly recommend taking off this list. Quote
gamecreator Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Good point Benji, though I would leave it on with a warning by it. They can still be used as placeholders or professional models to study from and emulate. Quote

I would personally have it taken off the list - Just because well it is looked down upon when people rip models from other games. Most models that are ripped from a game typically have triangles opposed to quads. They would be good for practicing retopo work on but other that nothing more. Quads are allot easier to work with opposed to a bunch of tiny triangles. Quote
Josh Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 The Steam Workshop is surprisingly lenient with this sort of thing. Looking at other games out there, it seems like kind of the wild west right now. 2 Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
