asan studio Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Will there be a Linux version of Ultra Engine in the future? I purchased the Leadwerks to Ultra Engine Upgrade on Steam (Lua version). Is the C++ version significantly better? Will there be an option to upgrade from the Lua version to the C++ version on Steam in the future? Is there a starter template available for creating plugins using Lua? I noticed there isn't a Vehicle Joint or Wheel Component for developing racing games. Will these features be added in future updates? Is there a shader template to help create custom shaders? I have some GLSL shaders that I’d like to port to Ultra Engine. Quote

I have some GLSL shaders that I’d like to port to Ultra Engine. I plan on native Linux support, but it makes sense to defer that as long as possible, because adding an extra OS to build for every update would slow things down a lot. Reportedly, it works under Proton, although I have not tried it myself yet. C++ is only better for C++ programmers. If you are comfortable with Lua it will be able to handle most types of games. The beta branch actually has a built-in IDE now and I am putting more effort into the Lua support because it is important. I can't comment on future upgrade plans, things are not decided. We have a system for scripted editor extensions. It's mostly undocumented right now, but there are many code examples in the Ultra Engine/Scripts/Start/Extensions folder. Vehicles are not currently supported. I have some really nice vehicle code I plan to integrated that works really well, but right now I have decided to focus on bugs and documentation before adding any new features. Under the project tab, click on the + button and select "Add new shader family". That will give you a GLSL .frag file with a customizable function you can modify to make custom shaders for different surfaces. 1 Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
