3D World Studio on Windows 8

I haven't been able to get 3D World Studio 5.6 to successfully run on Windows 8. I have turned UAC off and installed and run the program in various compatibility modes as administrator and it continues to lock up. It appears to begin loading and the interface will sometimes load but nothing is functional. Anyone have any ideas or experience with this? C++ Runtime Error R6025 - Pure Virtual Function Call

Unfortunately, it seems that Windows 8 is not backwards compatible with some windows programs, and Leadwerks 3 is replacing 3D World Studio.

I just need such an awesome editor! will buy leadwerks3 when it has CSG features implemented.

Josh, seeing as the Leadwerks editor doesn't have an export option, thus 3DWS is still our editor of choice, would it be possible for you to rebuild 3DWorldStudio.exe using a Windows 8 compatible compiler?

I would rather see Boolean functions added to the editor, then we could forget 3dws.

you should probably stop selling it at TGC if the product is no longer being supported... or at least post in big letters that it will not run on windows 8 on its home/features page

Was anyone able to resolve this? I'm having the same issue running 3D World Studio in Windows 8. Does not work running as an administrator or in compatibility mode for an previous Windows OS. If it no longer works, then TGC needs to take this off of their website for sale immediately.

 

Please provide a resolution to the matter.

Atleast why not release the source code now that it has become abandonware?
I mostly need it as a modding tool for a game called SCP - Containment Breach (made in Blitz3D) and we found 3DWS the easiest tool to use for room creation. There currently are no good alternatives to it that can export to .b3d and only pre-windows 8 users can use it.

I am still using win 7 on my model and game making computers. #D W works fine on win 7.

I just wish Jos woulds fix all the bugs in 3D W. Al Update it, look at blender, it is free and we paid good money for 3d w.

He shoudls stop thinking about a game engine and make 3D W what it sure be. It is still one of the best terrain builder out their.

He would sell more of 3D W than any game engine. Well I said my peace, I will shut up now.

I think the new editor will do everything 3DWS did and more.

Hi, we do understand that the new editor does what 3DWS better, but its all about the file that 3DWS exports, .b3d which is the only reason people still use 3DWS

Also because the game must use 3dws's special b3d format, or else it wont work for the conversion to .rmesh.

It would be easier for you to run a copy of the last version of Windows this works on than for us to try to work around this. The program is about 15 years old.

yeah it is actually painful to have to use it, but it is the only viable way to make maps on that game, and running it on a virtual machine its not any handy, many attemps have happen to see whats wrong with it but we just cant find out

I don't know if this will work, you could try virtualbox and install windows 7 on it.

we did, but its unusable, literally working with 5 fps

That is to bad. I have 4 computers with windows 7 just for all of my old game making programs. I know soon windows will stop working on the newer computers. I am old and hope I die be for that happens.

With any luck the new editor will be usable in the not-too-distant future. After all the work I have done, writing a new editor is actually relatively minor.

This is the sixth time I have written this editor, and I have become exceedingly good at it.
