fumanshoo Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Can materials be 2048 x 2048 instead of 1024 x 1024? I would test it, but I'm in class at the moment haha Quote
Michael Betke Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 yes I did materials with 8k textures (for terrain). 2k is no problem. Quote Pure3d Visualizations Germany - digital essences AAA 3D Model Shop specialized on nature and environments
Canardia Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 They can be even 4096x4096, if your GPU supports it. GeForce 8800 at least does. fumanshoo Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 good because I'm saving up for an 8800 unless I could settle for better. But thanks. That makes things much easier on this texture i'm working on... Quote
Juggernaut Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 @fumanshoo: Have a look at ATI RADEON HD 7750 or HD 7770 instead. They should handle the engine very well. Those are new generation cards released this year. Why are you running after something that is 5 years old already. fumanshoo Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 I had never bought a graphics card before and somewhere else on the forums, we talked about what graphics card I should get. Right now, I think I might get a Nvidia GTX 560 simply because it's small, cheap and apparently doesn't make noise. But I will look into the ATI RADEON 7750-7770. Quote
ParaToxic Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Look at the new GTX 660. This card is really better than the 560 and costs the same ( maybe a little bit cheaper I don't know ) 1 Quote
Canardia Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 GTX 560 is about twice as fast as Radeon 7770, and the price is the same: http://www.hwcompare.com/11885/geforce-gtx-560-vs-radeon-hd-7770/ Quote ■ Ryzen 9 ■ RX 6800M ■ 16GB ■ XF8 ■ Windows 11 ■ ■ Ultra ■ LE 2.5 ■ 3DWS 5.6 ■ Reaper ■ C/C++ ■ C# ■ Fortran 2008 ■ Story ■ ■ Homepage: https://canardia.com ■
Josh Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I recommend an Nvidia card over ATI. My highest card is a 480, and it runs anything I throw at it. Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
fumanshoo Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 @Metaron: I see you have a 570. What's the difference there. Anything noticeably better than the 560 or even the 660? Right now, I think I'm going for either a GTX 560 or 660. They both look pretty bad ***. Thanks for the comments here, guys. Quote
fumanshoo Posted December 3, 2012 Author Posted December 3, 2012 oh yeah. Definitely going for the 660 Quote
