I added some buttons on the right side of the toolbar to collapse the side panel, console, and object bar.

The icons on the object bar (left side) buttons are smaller now, and it looks a lot better. I felt like before the brightness of the object bar was making the whole appearance somehow unbalanced, but now it looks better.

What do you think?

that search bar also works to search for the contents of the selected folder?

I have not decided yet if it should search only the selected folder, or the whole project. The first approach sounds good in theory but in practice I find it ends up being more work.
